Modern Olympic Games:

Society, sport landmarks and the role of women throughout history.

It is undeniable that the Olympic Games play an important role in our society. For two weeks, people everywhere seem to stop for a while to witness the most important sport event in the world. The modern Olympic Games have had a great impact on our society, not only regarding sports, but also at an economic or social level.

That is why our school, IES Sol de Portocarrero, decided to put up an exhibition that displayed the significance of the modern Olympics. Our 4ESO students created a bilingual timeline of the Olympic Games, providing information on the most relevant sport landmarks, and on how the games have influenced society and the role of women throughout history.

Upplands-Bro’19 – ‘Winter Olympics’ SWEDEN

Erasmus+ IHMB third short-term exchange held by Upplands-Bro Gymnasiet between January 27th – February 2nd started yesterday with the presentation of the program, followed by lot of awesome activities: cooperative games, mindfulness, yoga, ice-skating and team sports. Sceneries created by our project during the celebration of the mobilities promote  sociocultural exchanges among participants, getting to know other realities and , in short, inclusion through physical activities and sports as the main of this ERASMUS+ project!

ONE DAY IN ‘SIERRA NEVADA’

Spanish students getting ready for the next upcoming Mobility in just one week in Sierra Nevada ski station.  

This time in Sweden, Upplands Bro Gymnasiet will be in charge of the celebration of our Winter Olympics between 27th January  – 2nd February. After team sports and athletics in Spain and sport activities in natural environment in Poland, now it’s time for winter sports in Sweden. Participants, students and teachers, will share lots of good moments within a sport frame, but also cultural activities and lessons at the hosting school will be part of the programme of this next short-term exchange. Therefore, Erasmus+IHMB teacher’s team continues making a substantial effort to gather the students of the four countries around attractive activities which enable good friendships being born. 

Participants are really looking forward to enjoying this Erasmus event!

ERASMUS PEN PALS

The programme Erasmus + IHMB has given our students the opportunity to make new international friends and keep in regular contact with them. However, this opportunity is not only offered to those students actually going on the exchanges, the programme goes beyond that. As a result of one of the meetings held by the teachers in charge of the organisation of the programme an idea was born, and it has successfully become a reality.
In December 2018, a group of 12- and 13-year-old students from both ÍES Sol de Portocarrero (Spain) and Europaschule Rövershagen (Germany) started to exchange letters in which they have introduced themselves and talked about different things such as their hobbies, their schools, their families, their life in Spain or in Germany, and the differences and similarities between both countries. Students are really excited about this exchange, which not only allows them to make new friends and learn about different customs, but it also gives them the chance to practise their foreign language skills in a real context. Plus, in the age of technology…. we’ve gone old school! Most of these students have never received an actual letter and they are having so much fun writing and decorating them!
Hopefully, they can build friendships that last a lifetime!

TM2 – ‘OLYMPIC COMMITTEE’

Between 13-16th November, IES SOL DE PORTOCARRERO (Spain) held the second Transnational Meeting of our project. All four countries worked on ideas for the second year of our IHMB Erasmus+ project. So excited to work on those ideas with our students afterwards. We worked hard, learn a lot about each other and also had time to enjoy and have fun. Wonderful team made by these group of European friends, more than just peers.

ERASMUS+IHMB DOCUMENTS: ASSESMENT

There are some of the most remarkable results achieved by now in relation with the objectives of Erasmus+ IHMB project taking into account the opinion of participants (average between three surveys passed):

A. Project is contributing to (selected in order of preference by participants):

  1. Get to know students from other countries: 80’4%
  2. Improve English skills of participants: 73,8%
  3. Work on values like respect, workgroup, fair play: 60,2%
  4. Develop social skills and relationships: 58,3%
  5. Promote a healthy lifestyle: 46,7%

B. Activities were useful for (Yes/Liitle Bit/No):

  1. Integrate people with different capacities and backgrounds: Yes (88%) Little (11,3%) No (0,7%)
  2. Establish friendships and develop feeling of brotherhood and unity with other people of the EU: Yes (89%) Little (10,9%) No (0,1%)
  3. Create a more healthy lifestyle on participants free time: Yes (61,1%) Little (33%) No (5,9%)
  4. Improve the self-steem of the participants: Yes (77,6%) Little (16,4%) No (6%)
  5. Develop the interest to get to know people of other countries, cultures and languages: Yes (94,7%) Little (5,3%) No (0)

C. Asked about their interest to participate in new Erasmus+ projects, 94,2% of participants say YES

D. Some highlighted answers to the last question: ‘Do you think this Erasmus+ project will help to improve your own school/school’ life? If yes, in which aspects?

  • ‘Hopefully this way some students will be more open-minded and have more self-esteem and the school will become more European’.
  • ‘Refiriéndome al aula especifica del centro, ha servido para mejorar y fomentar la inclusión del alumnado con NEE con resto de integrantes en la actividad además de, mejorar a nivel personal sus habilidades sociales y físicas.’ ‘Refering to the specific group of  students with SEN of our school (IES SOL DE PORTOCARRERO), it’s been useful to improve and encourage the inclusion of these students with the rest of participants, as well as to improve social and physical skills at a personal level’
  • Sí. Este proyecto da una proyección europea al instituto que es muy enriquecedora para toda la comunidad educativa. La posibilidad de compartir experiencias de este tipo con compañeros de otros países es muy positiva. Con este tipo de proyectos se favorece, sin lugar a dudas, la calidad educativa de nuestras enseñanzas.’ Yes. This project has an European impact for our high school very enriching for the whole school community. The chance to share these experiences with other countries mates is very positive. This kind of projects benefits the quality of our education without any doubt.
  • Para los alumnos con NEE del aula específica del centro ha sido un gran proyecto para fomentar la inclusión con el resto. Así como mejorar sus habilidades sociales en distintos contextos.’ It’s been a great project for the students with SEN of our school in order to encourage their inclusion among the rest of students. as well as to improve their social skills in different contexts’.
  • Hopefully this way some students will be more open-minded and have more self-esteem and the school will become more European’.
  • ‘Yes, not only do I think so, I can make sure it did indeed. Actually, everyone got excited. I used to get on my bus hearing slight whispers about the foreigners. Some people who didn’t host anyone came and greet the “foreigner” as something really exotic. Our mind really came out from Almería. Friendships were built just triggered by sports and those activities we made, and friendships still groove nowadays. I am proud of our work, and proud of our school’s work.’
  • Yes, to do different things that we dont use to do. Erasmus + has helped to ies sol de portocarrero in a lot of different ways. For example, now we have facebook, instagram and a lot of social medias. Also to get out of the routine, get to know each other better and to encourage the english.’

We would like to highlight the great job done by Noelia Moya, student coordinator of the press team during the first mobility of our project, ‘Almeria’18 Olympic Games of Health’ held last March in Spain. Participants:

  • Four Erasmus+IHMB Teams, made by students of the four participating countries: Erasmus Teams and Press Team
  • Seven Teams of IES Sol de Portocarrero of the optional subject Health, Physical Activity and Quality of Life.
  • Five teams of our guest schools: Three teams of IES Too-Retamar (1st day: Sports Games) and 2 teams of IES Nicolás Salmerón (2nd day: Track and Field Events)
  • 14 students of ASALSIDO (Down Syndrome Association of Almería) and 1 student of ‘A Toda Vela’, association for disabilities. They are invited to participate in the Track and Field events (March 22nd), and they will be included in the participating teams.

Credentials: all participants must carry their credentials, ‘athletes’ and guests to the opening ceremony. CREDENTIALS FOR PARTICIPANTS AND VOLUNTEERS.

Clothing for athletes and volunteers: athletes and volunteers must wear their Erasmus T-shirt for the sports events.

Volunteers team: a group of 31 volunteers made by students of the Vocational Training Degree of Physical Activity and Sports will help with the organization of this Olympic Games. Furthermore, each team will count with a guide during the Sports Celebrations.

Nice video presentation of students from Liceum Psary (Poland) answering the questions defined during the TM_1, Transnational Meeting in Sweden, before coming to Spain to participate in our project’s first Olympic Games (short-term exchange).

Good job done by the students of Liceum Ogolnokstalcace . They are really good filming and editing videos, so we all have much to learn from them during these two years.

Spanish, Swedish and German students are already improving their skills as film makers for our next visit to Poland. Results will be ready soon!
